In 2012, on my sixtieth birthday, I took early retirement from the Council. I had secretly been practising my next career for the best part of a year: I set myself up as a freelance proofreader and copy-editor, and joined the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (commonly known as the SfEP).



 



My new office was a lot more convenient and comfortable. If you look closely, you can see the photograph of me that's used in the Welcome page and inspired the logo beneath 'About Me' on this very page.
